Develop a Yoga Self Practice 10 Week Course
* This course sold out in 2017 - don't delay in booking your place for the 2018 Yoga Home practice course *
The beauty of a home yoga practice is that it can be whatever you need it to be. It can be fast and vigorous, or slow with extra time to stretch or practice certain postures. Your time on the mat can be a few minutes… or a few hours if you have time. It can be silent in the stillness of dawn, just before bed when everyone is asleep, or right in the middle of the day. Music or no music, inside or out, at home or at an exotic holiday location. You don’t need to rely on wi-fi connection or computers. Just you and your mat.
🌟 Are you ever disappointed by the lack of personal attention in group yoga classes?
🌟 Do you feel like some parts of the class move too fast, when you would really love to hang around and stretch? Or, on the other hand do you feel intimidated by a fast paced class?
🌟 Do you feel you never get “out of you your head” and into your body, having to listen and concentrate on your yoga teacher’s instructions?
🔶 What to Expect 🔶
This 10 week course is for you if you wish to delve into developing your own home yoga practice. Students will develop their own dynamic series of postures based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa 1/2 primary yoga sequence. Each student will receive personal guidance and assistance with hands-on and verbal cues, with each pose adapted to the student’s ability. The teaching is tailored to the individual, as in a one to one session, but within the energy of a small group setting. This course is for students with some prior yoga experience.
Everyone in this 10 week course will be in the same boat. Over the 10 weeks, through repetition, you'll begin to memorize the sequence so the practice becomes second nature like a moving meditation. You will be supplied with a laminated “cheat sheet” of postures as well as a course folder. The class will be small (maximum 14 students) and students must be able to dedicate themselves to the 10 week course with at least 1 recommended homework session per week. I’ll be emailing students weekly with tips and videos to keep you on track.
By the end of the 10 weeks you will have the confidence and knowledge to be able to roll your mat out anywhere and practice.
🔶 The Details 🔶
When: Wednesday nights commencing May 9th, 7-8:15pm.
Where: The Yoga Centre, 51 Gilbert Street, CBD
Investment: $165 for full 10 weeks or $110 for 6 pass or for repeating students that completed course in 2017. Bookings via my booking website. Please note that classes are only available for use within the 10 weeks for this course.
This way of learning yoga is based on the traditional Ashtanga Yoga “Mysore style” system. Mysore is named after the south Indian town in which the late K Pattabhi Jois taught from the late 1930s until his death in 2009.
🌟 Imagine learning yoga in this traditional way, where the cue to move on to the next posture comes from your own breath instead of a teacher's instructions.
🌟 Feel completely focused on your practice, without the comparison and competition as everyone works at their own pace.
🌟 Work closely with your teacher over a period of time so that you both develop an understanding of the way your body moves
Working through a set series of postures has the benefit of developing these key postures, seeing your progression from week to week and it avoids the temptation to skip postures that you find challenging. In effect, you become your own teacher focusing on breath, drishti (gaze point) and bandha to achieve a practice that is a silent, moving meditation.
🔶 Are you ready to develop your own yoga practice? There are only 14 places available so that we can learn and grow together over the 10 weeks. This course sold out in 2017. Course starts on Wednesday May 10th, don’t miss on this unique opportunity to learn this life changing practice. 🔶

FAQ
Q: Can I participate in this course if I'm a beginner?
A: This course is for students with some prior yoga experience only. Options will be given to suit your experience level, however beginners are advised to attend the beginner's course (currently in progress).
Q: How will I know if this style of yoga is for me?
A: The sequence taught is based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga series, you'll be shown up to 1/2 primary series as a group. You can attend a class from my beginner's course on a casual basis if you'd like to experience and find out if this style of yoga is a good fit. Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a vigorous style of yoga that builds both strength and flexibility in body and mind.
Q: What if I can't make all the classes?
A: If you happen to miss a class you'll still be kept up to date on what we've learnt each week via a weekly email. You'll also have access to 45 minute yoga practice video (filmed by myself) which you can do at home. If you know you'll miss a few classes due to work, travel or life in general, there will be a limited amount of 6 class passes available (or, you are welcome to start your 10 class pass earlier by attending the last few weeks of the Beginner's course which runs through to April 18th).
Q: What if I have an injury?
A: Please feel free to send me an email and discuss further. Most injuries can be catered for with modifications to the practice. Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a strong practice - if you have serious issues with weight bearing on the knees or wrists, it may not be suitable.
